SUMMER SCHOOL OFF TO A FLYER!

After an early start for both Staff and Students, the very first ‘Kingston University and St.Mary’s College Summer School’ got under way today! The weather was kind for us on Day one with fine sunshine throughout the opening day!

Having assembled everyone at St.Mary’s Strawberry Hill campus, Staff introductions were made as well as an outline of the agenda for the five days. The students were then simply overjoyed at receiving their own individual t-shirts for the week!! Furthermore, five groups, each with a different respective coloured t-shirt were established to add to the excitement! A brief tour of the campus was followed by the first session of the Summer School – a presentation regarding the planning and design of the Summer School Website!

This honour fell to Paul Honey, who initially explored the many various aspects of Websites in general, combined with a questionnaire for the students. Indeed, there were several excellent contributions made by a number of students concerning the practical applications of companies using websites. The presentation subsequently focused on the Summer School’s own website, with specific attention towards exactly what information should be included on the site. Other areas that Paul addressed were elements such as site maps and design style type face.

After lunch in ‘the Ref’ (Refectory!), a series of group challenges were conducted outside on the playing fields, which had all of us laughing! Three-legged races, skipping and ‘speed marshmellow eating’ were amongst the activities!! The final challenge of the day witnessed a flawless display of ‘frisby firepower’ by the White team (which happens to be my team!), who were unbeaten champions with three wins out of three!

Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable first day of the Summer School!
